my wife and I are about to start doing this, and was wondering if anyone on the Outdoors board has experience with it. just looking for opinions on what to expect, and if you find it enjoyable.

its pretty fun. Go ahead and get the app that's not free. a few more will show up to find. I got bored with it after about a month though

Finding hidden things in Public areas...of course it's fun. Some are super easy, some are impossible. Plan accordingly. They are cool when they have significance (I.e. explaining the history of the little building you found the cache in being a slave house or something).

awesome - it seems like it could be a lot of fun - and it gets us out of the house and some excersize.

my wife is from CO, and im from Mobile - so should be a lot of cool places to Geocache in both locations.

Wife and I cache. Urban caches are fun to find cool sites in a city, I prefer running around in the woods like state parks. Do get the premium geocaching app.

yeah, it is kind of fun....pace yourself and don't get burned out on it and it will be a nice hobby for the two of you.

as goho says, some are very easy and some will drive you nuts...

I love it ... It is amazing how many of those things are around and most people have no clue about them .... The best part is trying to be stealthy in urban environments as to not let the uninitiated in on the secret ... The cache on the zero mile marker in Key West drove us crazy for over an hour

You use billion dollar satellites to look for things that others have hidden..... Go to geocaching. Com and it has a great explanation and tutorial

I live in Central Texas and one day there was a small car driving slowly by my farm. I stopped and asked them what they were doing and they said geocaching. They were from Minnesota and had come to Texas just to search. In the middle of summer. They were melting!

we used to base our day trips on how many caches were hidden in an area

I don't do it as much these days, but I enjoy hunting the ones in rural parks and out in the woods. Don't really care for the urban ones in shopping center parking lots and such.

It can be a good excuse to hit some trails. We rented bikes in Gulf Shores and rode the state park trails. Found 10 that day.

There are also several around old cemeteries. I have seen some interesting cemeteries and headstones while caching.

awesome replies guys - we will be getting the premium in the next few days - its funny, because looking shows that there is one hidden in our apartment complex - and apparently someone where i work left one near the office - its funny to look and see just what is out there.

Birmingham is just buried under them LOL

I love geocaching. My kids love going out on the hunt. We have 6 or so hidden around as well. Great hobby.

Is this like when we used to find creative places to hide Playboy's and Hustlers as a kid?
