Keshun Reed of Arlington-Martin, Texas announced his verbal commitment to Louisiana State University on Monday evening via Twitter.

The defending Texas state champion in the 400 meters owns a personal best of 45.75 for the distance as well as a best of 21.39 for 200 meters. Reed already has international racing experience under his belt, as he placed third in the 400m at the IAAF World Youth Championships this summer.

Very nice, a big pickup for the program. It feels like with so many talented sprinters being kicked off that LSU hasn't had a freshman phenom in men's track in awhile. We've been banking on juco's. He'll do really well here, as the 400m and 4x400 has been money for the men's program.

Is there any word on the women's class? Man, Elliot leaving has really cut our international ties.

From what I found as a nugget, Mike Norman, 2015 Gatorade National Sprinter of the year, has LSU in his final 4 along with USC, A&M, and Baylor. He has already broken the California state record in the 400m and 200m, and he's friends with Reed.

Want.
He should be able to break Aldrich Bailey's national 400m record this year

It would be the biggest pickup for LSU men's track since Xavier Carter. I'm not holding my breathe as I'm sure he has friends committed to A&M and USC too, but we are spectacular at coaching up the 400m and frankly we're due for a program changing commitment.

Speaking of, holy shite Xavier Carter was amazing. What a waste. Who breaks Jesse Owens single season national championship record as a sophomore, only to waste himself away?

I like Coach Shaver, but I wouldn't mind him bringing letting Thymes walk for a sprint coach with more recruiting ties.

Whenever Shaver retires, we need to hire whoever the hell Oregon's best assistant is. They are dominating track right now. I would have liked the SIU women's coach, but shockingly Ole Miss got her. Figured she'd land a much better gig.

Do you think it would be "Program changing"? I don't see him running at the collegiate level more than 1 year.
Although that 1 year would basically guarantee a top 3 finish given that Cherry, Bruton, and Acy stay around.

It would be a fleeting but big moment for LSU's recruiting efforts.

From Ashley Owens and Ebony Collins on the women's side to Parson's injury bug and dismissals on the men, it'd be great publicity for LSU to land a guy like him for future classes. It just feels like LSU track has been the brick haley of track and field lately. We're always in the top 5 for elite talent but not the victor.

As a big track fan it just gets frustrating seeing Florida, A&M, and Oregon seemingly get first dibs these days. Even Arkansas has been taking international sprinters/hurdlers that would previously had gone to LSU first (Mcleod comes to mind)

I feel like we're well coached, but we're not getting "first pick" like we used to. Great to see a guy like Keshun Reed join the good guys though.

Wow. It's a joke man. Reed attends Martin high in Arlington Texas. A couple of times a week I run passed Martin high to get some hill work in. (There are hills in the area around Martin high in Arlington Texas) the joke is he attends Martin high in Arlington Texas and may have seen me running by while wearing an lsu shirt and was so impressed with my speed he decided to commit to lsu. Hope that clears it up for you.
