8 birds of prey working together?

So, I looked out my window towards the river a minute ago and saw 8 kites all darting and dancing about 15 feet over the river. They were a decent distance away, so I had some trouble getting pics, but I got 3 decent ones:
In all my years, I've never seen more than 2 adults together, so it definitely caught my attention. At first I was thinking they were kites, but the tail doesn't look "vee" enough.
I really wish I could have gotten better pics, but my camera up here only has so much zoom.

ETA - if it helps to identify them, their color markings almost remind me of a typical grey pigeon.

I think I've seen shows on Harris' hawks doing that. Where's Teague?

Pretty sure that's it. Really cool sight to see. At first it looked like a bunch of oversized swallows feeding.

Once I was mowing the back couple acres and 3 or 4 Mississippi Kites landed at the top of 2 hackberry trees at the edge of the field. As I was mowing these green grasshopper looking things would fly up in front of the tractor and glide about 20 ft into the uncut grass. Then these Kites started swooping down and nailing them right in front of my tractor. This went on for about 45 min. It was a great mowing experience and the Kites must have been stuffed.
