Convert Alarm System to Cellular

I'm seriously considering pulling the plug on my land line and the only thing holding me back is the fact that my alarm system won't work with VoIP. Anybody have any experience with converting? Do I need to replace the entire alarm box or is there some sort of cellular adapter? Also, does the alarm company charge more for monitoring when it's over cell phone?

Alarm company charges more. It's basically the same price as eliminating the phone line.
Called Cox to tell them I was contemplating making the switch and they have an unadvertised phone plan that's a flat $9.99/mo that allows 30min of outbound calls a month. Considering the only thing it's used for is the alarm, I went with it.

It's more expensive, and if someone is cutting the phone lines to get you, they are pretty committed IMO.

i charge 6.00 more a month for monitoring and thats what telguard charges me a month for their service. You can pretty much use any alarm control panel its basically just takes place of landline. Very simple installation.

I switched from ADT to simplisafe and disconnected my phone line. You have to pay for some equipment up front and do a very easy self install, but the equipment+monitoring is less after a year than adt+home phone. And every year after is very cheap.

Also, those of you saying carrying a phone line is cheaper. Check your taxes and fees on your bill. 911, FCC and all that adds up. I was paying around $30/month to cox for just phone.

That's why I was about to ditch it until COX offered me the $9.99 flat. Phone line is like $6.50+taxes

I just got an alarm installed back in December. The total cost with the cellular monitoring was around $550 installed, no contract, with monthly monitoring at $27.50 per month.

I pay ADT $20 a month for cellular monitoring. Another local texas company was offering $18 month and $80 for them to come install the cellular thing.
