Recruiting Video Question

I (or my assignee) want to create a video for my son, who is currently a HS Junior, and have some questions for those that are more in the know than I am. I would like to get him to a few camps this summer, hoping someone will take interest. So...
Music or no music? I gather from some comments, no music, but wanted some feedback.
What is the ideal length of said tape?
Should I (we) use arrows to highlight him? (he plays defense, if that matters)
How about weaving in highlights from local news outlets where he was mentioned? Cheesy or helpful?
Then, of course, how's the best way to get the tape around? Louisiana Football Magazine? E-mail? Other? Do I note his honors (grades, All-District, etc) in a cover letter?
My older son had no interest in trying to play at the college level, so this is all uncharted territory for me. TIA for any help!

No music
Long enough to get his highlights all in the reel
Arrows are fine
Put it on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, pretty much anywhere you can.

I would do music but only do an instrumental.
I would also use arrows to point your kid out before the play.

Thanks guys. JJ, don't you have a nephew that's a big time recruit? Does he have a video put together? If so, do you know who did it?

If you're sending it out as a DVD or what have you, I think including academic info is a great idea. Not sure coaches will care about all-district type stuff, but GPA and test scores up front gives them less stuff they have to vet later on.

Nah he's just in 7th grade. I put his reel together with a friend using iMovie. Just did it because it was required to send in for Eastbay All American and FBU applications. Jrevonte's son is the big time prospect an he's the one that told me to use iMovie. It's ridiculously easy to put one together.

Also I made a couple of different versions. The ones we sent in had no music. The ones I did for him to keep and on YouTube had music. I just read in Meat Market that any tape with music they threw it out so why risk it?

Music isn't necessary, but if you do, no lyrics.

Ideal length should be no more than 9-10 minutes. Only exceptions I can think of that may extend it are lot of special teams run backs that may take 20+ seconds for a single highlight.

I wouldn't do the arrows too much, but they're vital if you can't immediately pick out where they are at the start of the play. This is more important on defense, then it is on offense imo.

I think it's cheesy, but I'd include it in a personal video to show friends and family.

LFM does help out. You most definitely include all the info about his grades and honors do not hurt. Usually, a little graphic at the start of the video with all his stats/vital info is all you need. At Dunham, Mistretta gave my brother a list of schools and addresses where they would send his film for him. That got it to over 100 schools. They generally send something back saying that got your film and are evaluating it. I'm sure U high has something similar that can help you out.
My Dad was the one who went through the trouble of making the highlight reel. He got advice from friends who have worked in the field (Tensey Pricer, used to head up Pelican Preps) and went from there.

That's awesome. Another things that helps is that coaches talk. There will be coaches at games and practices to see other guys on the team, but they have friends at other schools as well and a lot of times will give a heads up to check someone out. So getting film to 100 different schools just expands that network even more.

put his best plays in the beginning. most people stop watching after a handful of plays if they arent immediately impressed.

This is very true. My brother was already on Tech's board after a BR camp, but Mistretta knows Skip Holtz from somewhere down the line and he called him up as soon as he got the job.
While this may be an uncommon situation, you'll find coaches know a lot of people in a lot of places.
