I take the impact part of the question to mean like the recruit that really got you hooked on recruiting or made you want to follow recruiting at all.

The recruit that did that for me was Ronald Curry from Hampton, VA. Absolute beast in hs and still the best I've ever seen at the hs level. Also had a flip at the end of his recruitment that kind of set the tone for how things work now.

Aggie here. I saw this thread and was curious how many of you would say harvey williams. I remember well being a first grader in bryan, texas, staring at the clock in school and knowing that his press conference was happening then. As soon as my dad got home from work and told me what happened I was absolutely devastated. Still the recruitment that has "impacted" me the most.

I agree that a better title would be "First huge recruit that caused you to notice and start following recruiting".

For me, being from NOLA, it would be Gary James. Then when Hilliard beat him out, I started following recruiting to see who else was out there.

A&M got us back with Bucky Richardson though

I was a sophomore DE for NISH in '87 (with now DB coach Corey Raymond who was a senior at the time) when we came to BR to play Broadmore in a play off game...Bucky Richardson was the man, Needless to say we lost a tight game that night...

is it me or does Johnny Manziel play like Bucky Richardson???

Ron Powlus

I was a pretty big ND fan as a kid starting when they had the Rocket/Zorich/Tony Rice teams, and Mirer had just gone no. 2 in the draft. Powlus was all-everything and ppl were saying he might start as a true freshman. he ended up breaking his collarbone and they still almost won the NC without him.

after that, I also paid attn to the Peyton/ Booty/ Allen Iverson class right after in 94, and of course the Kevin Faulk signing which was HUGE for LSU.

I didn't really follow recruiting until the Rueben Randle saga - kind of stumbled upon reading about it and found myself checking this board all the time. His dad, cousin or brother, Bama, Bentons, all kinds of drama going on. That was probably the first time it hit me that a Louisiana boy could possibly consider playing for 'the dark side' when he had an LSU offer! I've been a little suspicious of him ever since...
