Liked the most recent Spiderman better than McGuire. Liked the most recent girlfriend better too.

I thought this is how he was in the comics?
Exactly.

I still read the spiderman comics to this day.
I loved the reboot.
Andrew Garfield >>>>>> Toby McGuire
Emma Stone infinitely better than Kirsten Dunst. Its not even a competition.

He was a sarcastic smartass in the comics. They tried to remain faithful to the source material this time around. Why would this bother you?

Spoilers for next Spiderman********************
Well too bad Gwen Stacey dies in the next film and they're already moving along with a Mary Jane.

Spider Man is a sarcastic smartass. Parker is not.
The quips as Spider Man didn't bother me. The fact that the character of Peter Parker was a selfish dick from beginning to end did. He undergoes no growth. He's Spider Man because it makes him feel cool and gives him the confidence to bag Gwen. Uncle Ben dying has no lasting effect. Capt Stacy dies for him, asks him to stay away from has daughter and he reneges on that promise almost immediately.
That was the biggest problem for me.

^^^ I agree so far.
But in terms of overall quality, I'm leaning toward this one. I'm watching it as I type this. His character as Parker just doesn't really fit. Hippy nerd genius and a smartass throughout, lol. But yeah.. it's picking up

I though his portrayal of Spider Man was the closest to the comics of any movie yet.
Maguire wasn't a cocky smartass. . .he came across as clueless and more akin to Inspector Gadget. Almost like he accidentally stumbles on the correct course of action.

I think Macguire's first 2 movies were better overall. 2 especially. I think 3 left such a bad taste in the mouth that it people tend to criticize the whole trilogy.
But Garfield as Spider Man is a much much better than Macguire ever was.
ASM never quite came together for me. Seemed a little too disjointed. I enjoyed it, but was frustrated.

I finally saw the movie:
1. People are way too hard on Spider-Man 3. All because Toby McGuire went all emo for 15 minutes.
2. McGuire was more like able as Parker. He didn't seem as smart as the Garfield portrayal though. I didn't like ASM overload smartass remarks. Reminds me why I want to smack all these spoiled brats nowadays. That hipster persona killed it for me.
3. ASM Spider-Man was more realistic, especially with the webbing but still far fetched. I like their twist on it though. More believable.
4. I thought Spider-Man had recovery and healing qualities? Dude gets a 2 inch deep slash on his chest and he's all like "I don't treat the wound cause it makes me look like a beleaguered super hero".

The problems of that movie are deeper than one 15 minute stretch. The entire movie is dumb and overstuffed.

He's a kid in high school, how is he supposed to act?
I'll take Garfield over the constant pre-pubescent weeping of Mcguire's Parker.
