I know there was a point in history, or maybe a couple where the federal debt was completely paid off. So this article probably isn't completely accurate.

Still, 90+ Billion in new debt. It's obscene.

When the Treasury can sell 10 and 30 year debt at current rates, they'd be foolish not to.

Also keep in mind that $90 billion back then was an enormously bigger share of GDP. This isn't really very comparable.
