Such a shame that a great game ended that way

Old fashioned, hard nosed, pound you in the mouth football was played in South Bend in monsoon rain.

All comes down to a 4th down play on the goal line from the 1 yard line and the officials frick it up AFTER reviewing the play for minutes.

There was more football to be played when the game was called. Just another example that replay technology is only beneficial in the hands of capable referees.

Yes, Stanford appeared to have scored a TD, but calling two straight up the gut plays is pretty fricken stupid against that ND line, especially with the way it had been playing all game/year.

Coach Shaw is not receiving nearly enough criticism.

Nobody knows. The commentators said it wasn't blown.

This is what everyone is ignoring, ND players were already celebrating.
He clearly got in, but after the whistle blew.
Now some people say he blew it too early which makes sense, but had he not blown it, ND players would not have let up either.

Mike Pereira: We have looked at ND/STA last play from every angle & feel that it is a TD. Progress was not ruled & runner was not down. Ball broke plain.

@MikePereira: The fact that the whistle may or may not have been blown is irrelevant. The play is reviewed and when the whistle blew has no bearing.

So the refs forgot they blew the whistle?

@MikePereira ND/STA Hard to say because if they ruled progress you couldn't change it.

And then 10 minutes later he tweeted that the progress was not ruled and that the play was a TD. Come on man. I actually liked you and now you're just being an idiot.

You can see the side judge running in appears to be blowing the play dead just before the final turn and surge into the endzone. His forward progress stopped and is an easy call when viewed in real time.

Oh, the ND homer announcers? Lol that's like Lou Holtz saying it was the best call he's seen

Mark May said he scored for sure.

Lou Holtz said he was clearly stopped short
