Alabama's average SAT scores seem to be oddly high, at # 20, considering where they are in all other rankings.
Anybody have a guess why?
I would guess that local colleges use the ACT. So the only people actually taking the SAT are trying to get into more selective out-of-state schools (that tend to prefer SAT). So the SAT scores only include the very best students in Alabama.

I think we’ve been anchored.

That would be true of most Southern states, would it not?

From the “Introduction” and “Education v Intelligence” sections of the site . . .
Why does this sound like a soft-sell vax pitch, lol?
A few people were discussing ACT v SAT scores for southern states as compared to others.
This table from ACT.org lists average ACT scores by state for the graduating classes of 2022.
Notice the percentage of students tested in each state.
Of 100% of students, which 9% is Massachusetts testing, I wonder?
Alabama tests 100% of its students.
COVID stats aren’t the only misleading stats.

Various factors may favor lower IQ, such as education, wealth, nutrition, and public policies. Health is another key factor. Indeed, a recent study showed that the development of the brain during childhood consumes close to 90% of a newborn calorie intake. If this newborn is contaminated by an infectious disease, part of its energy will be directed to fighting the disease, and not to develop the brain. All three states with the lowest IQs in the U.S. – Mississippi, Louisiana, and California – have high levels of infectious disease as well. This suggests that infectious disease could be one of the primary causes of low IQ in these three states.

Statistics and facts are racist.

It's amazing to me that there are countries where the average IQ of it's citizens, are in the fifties.

Take St Louis and KCMO out of the MO IQ calculation and I bet the average IQ goes from 101 to 105……remove the people who have moved into MO from Kansas and MO average IQ jumps to 107.

It all comes down to demographics.
During WWI the US Army gave mental acuity tests to incoming soldiers. Blacks from the northern states scored better than whites from the south.

There are a lot of uncomfortable things allowed to be presented on TD.... but this truth hits home too hard to discuss???
There is an uncomfortable truth that IQ is 'generally' associated with race, ethnicity, and country of residence(for a myriad of reasons.)
