Technically next week is the finale but it looks like just a clip show. The story wrapped up tonight. Ending was ok. Certainly could have been more epic and should have considering the story but it wasn't awful either. Not too many shows have been good this long but they pulled it off. The show had a good run and the reruns are still rewatchable. Certainly will go down as one of all time favorite series.

I thought the same thing, Tonight seemed like the finale. It wasn't great, but wasn't awful. I actually liked it. I heard it was to be much bigger, but covid restrictions made them make some big changes.
I don't know what they could possibly do next week for a 2 hour series finale that could wrap up the story line any better. But I'll be sad to watch it end. One of my favorite shows.

From what I understand next week is a clip/retrospective/documentary episode and then the finale.

So I guess if everything plot-wise wrapped up, it's a farewell to show what happens after the season plot ended and bring final closure.

It is sad; I've fallen off watching every week but I distinctly remember watching when it first aired all those years ago (September 13, 2005).

I'm eager to see how much closure the 2 main characters get. I've listened to both actors in interviews say they'd be open doing a shortened season on a streaming platform. And with the show's creator now over at Amazon with his newest series "the boys", I wouldn't doubt we see it get a short run on Amazon Prime in the future.

It is still popular on TNT and Netflix so if there's a miniseries I would guess it ends up on one of those.

I can’t even allow myself to watch it right now. Would make me way too bummed out.

Still watch reruns on tnt throughout the day. One of my all time favorite shows.

Had no clue it was ending. I will await for it to hit Netflix so I can do like a fifth rewatch.

Great show.

I think it goes to Netflix on the 27th.

My original theory was they kill what was current ( God and Lucifer) and they take the place of those two and the cycle starts over and they can’t control it any different.

When I made that theory, Jack wasn’t even thought of.

Its officially over now. We got some closure to Sam and Dean's story but really they could have ended it after last week's episode. Dean went out like a bitch. Last scene had some good emotions though.

Didn't like how they ended Dean but ending made up for it.

Last week was the end of the God storyline. Tonight was the end of the story, and the story was always about 2 brothers and their commitment to each other. It ended as I always thought it would. One brother dying in the line of duty and the other walking away from the hunter's life and living a "normal" life. I enjoyed the ending. It was emotional. I found this show after it was on a couple seasons, but been a faithful viewer since. It's like I always sat down each week and had a beer with the Winchester boys, and now, I'm not so sure who'll I'll sit and zone out with for an hour and have that beer with. All time top 3 show for me. Admittedly I am a fan of this genre.

Last week was more open ended and happy. If they were gonna go with the Cain and Abel story for Sam and Dean like was intended in the first five seasons one of them should have killed the other one or at least have sacrifice himself to save the world. Dean's death meant nothing and it was to a nameless, faceless monster.

A few questions this finale brought up, if Jack remade the universe why did he bring back monsters? Did Sam continue hunting or train those two boys to hunt? It looks like they were going with Sam and Dean's backstory with Dean standing in for Mary and Sam standing in for John and the two boys being the new Sam and Dean.

I think you can really harken back to 5x22 - Swan Song,

quote:

Castiel: You got what you asked for, Dean. No paradise, no hell, just more of the same. I mean it, Dean. What would you rather have: peace... or freedom?

And the endings (and the bitching from some of the fans) can be summed up with a quote from Chuck in that same episode:
quote:

“Endings are hard. Any chapped-arse monkey with a keyboard can poop out a beginning, but endings are impossible. You try to tie up every loose end, but you never can. The fans are always gonna bitch. There's always gonna be holes. And since it's the ending, it's all supposed to add up to something. I'm telling you, they're a raging pain in the arse.”

It wasn't half bad. I assume it would have been BIGGER with more people if it was any year but 2020 but hey, it wasn't as bad as some notable finales.

Agree, Dean was never going to settle down, he always knew he would die hunting. Sam had the opportunity to raise a family, which was what he always wanted, but as his son’s tattoo showed, he didn’t stop hunting. I wasn’t thrilled with how Dean died, but the last 20 minutes brought things home nicely.

The only thing that really surprised me about the ending was the finality of it. Both actors have said they'd be open to doing a short season of the show on a streaming service in the future if the opportunity arises. I know it's Supernatural and they could make it happen, but it seems like they really closed the door on that by showing you Sam living out his days. Still, I thought the show,
despite covid restrictions, gave us a nice wrapped up ending. From the pilot episode, it was clear Dean always embraced the hunter's life and would likely meet his demise at the hand of a monster, while Sam was more eager to live a normal life, but was pulled into the life out of commitment to family and finding his GF's killer. Glad Sam got the life he wanted after all. Although, with the tattoo on his son's arm, it's likely he continued to hunt in some capacity.

I would have loved to see how it would have ended if there were no covid restrictions.

I always thought Dean would survive because he was Michael's chosen vessel. He was the good one. Sam had the demon blood and was Lucifer's vessel. I liked the good brother/bad brother dynamic they had but that eventually disappeared over time.

Sam could have just told his son the tattoo was some kind of family symbol. The kid might not have known what it meant. I do think it would be irresponsible of him to give up hunting and let monsters keep killing people though.

Perfectly said.
Season 1-5 will go down as one of the greatest show of all time. I thought the 2nd to last episode was just meh. The finale definitely made up for it. I wasn’t expecting much for the finale and it ended perfectly even better than I expected. The second “Carry on my wayward son” comes on you immediately get goosebumps. The emotional remix of the song to end it was even better. You couldn’t have made a better song to end the show with that emotion. Crazy to think I started watching this back in college in 2005.
