Water pressure issues in shower

The shower closest to my water heater has low water pressure and the hot and cold water only work one at a time. It's either scorching or freezing. None of the other showers in the house have any issues. I was reading online about mixing valves but it sounds like those are only in single handle showers. This one has two handles for the hot and cold which are labeled backwards btw. What should I check first?

Maybe check the shower head inlet screen for trash/rust/scale, and clean out the shower head sprayers with torch tip cleaning tool. Screen could have trash impeding flow…

New showers heads have a water saving feature. Take it apart and get a needle nose pliers to remove it.

ETA - should have asked this first - new or ongoing problem?
If ongoing, the problem could be due to the way the shower valve and water heater are plumbed and their proximity to each other (as shown in pic #3).
My guess is that the pressure drop across the shower valves is fighting against the pressure drop across the (tankless?) water heater. Flow follows the path of least resistance.
Not sure how to fix this short of relocating the take-offs for your shower.

Get some CLR and go to town on the showerhead.

Check the cartridge. Same thing happened to me. Changing cartridge helped. The tube in water heater disintegrated and clogged the bathroom fixtures.

From what you describe, I would suspect the diverter valve.

Thanks for all the suggestions. This will give me a good starting point for this weekend

I had to do this when I moved in to a new place

This. Tankless water heaters need to have enough water pulled through to keep them on. The water saver BS in new shower heads makes it so not enough water is being pulled from the water heater. To check if this is your problem, run the hot water in the bathroom sink while you shower. If that fixes the problem, it’s the stupid water saver. There are YouTube videos on how to remove.

Didn't work. Gonna try cleaning out the head and replacing the diverter valve
