My new router makes Wi-Fi 3x faster than old modem wired connection. How?

How is that possible? My old modem router combo was getting 50 MBS WIRED, now I have a new TP Link deco mesh system and I’m getting 170 MBS.
I have a new 3.1 modem I was going to install, but I’m not sure I need to now.

Way too many variables here.
How fast should your internet be?
Did you do these speed tests multiple times over multiple days?
Did you do the 50mbit wired and 170mbit wireless tests on the same device?
Did you ever try a different port or different cable for your wired tests?
How fast are your wired speeds now?
Are you still using the original modem/router combo unit, but in passthrough mode?

Howw fast should your internet be? I thought it was 50 but it’s 150
Did you do these speed tests multiple times over multiple days? I’ve tested 50 wired for years
Did you do the 50mbit wired and 170mbit wireless tests on the same device? Yes On my phone
Did you ever try a different port or different cable for your wired tests? Not yet
How fast are your wired speeds now? Surprisingly 150, not sure what changed.

It is still the original surfboard modem but I changed it to pass through I think, but I am still able to use it as a Wi-Fi. I just checked the speeds using my phone for the modem router combo and it is at 50.
I don’t know if it matters, I’m just glad I got better speeds to my house now. Wi-Fi is still faster than wired.

I don't know what you mean by wired speed, but you aren't testing it with your phone. If your phone tests faster with the new wifi then that makes sense.

the only explanation is your old modem wasn't docsis 3+ and unable to achieve higher transfer rates.
i dont keep up with it but i think you'll need a docsis 3.1 or higher if you ever want gig speeds.
comcast pulled this shite with me awhile back when i replaced MY OWN frickING MODEM with a newer one and they sent me an email saying they were now 'granting' me faster speeds.

no you didn't. the new modem enabled the higher speed..you just noticed and tried to make it sound like you just gave me something new for free. i had the faster speed instantly after installing the modem.

Red flag.

I've actually had a bad cable before. It might seem silly, but something like that can definitely reduce your speeds.

He was probably charging his phone while running the test
