The guy is a proven winner in the modern era and a ship righting disciplinarian. We could do a lot worse given where the search was headed.

But he’s coached what many on this site considered a cupcake schedule year in and year out. Can he be successful in the SEC?

Anyone melting is retarded. He's a solid hire and a fundamental coach.

Jury’s out. He brought Cincinnati to relevance too prior to ND which is also a data point.

He’s a disciplinarian and this program needs that right now. And He’s a winner. Imagine what he’s going to do with LSU’s talent. You are crazy if you think this hire is shite

Imagine if we didn’t land him after whiffing on Riley. It’s a huge drop off. I’m good with Kelly

He’s lost 9 games is like 5 years. I know their schedule is weak but it’s not that bad. Right now we’re a cupcake. I have a feeling it’ll translate. We shall see though

Oh, I’m not an ND hater by any means but let’s be real, a lot of people on this site year in and year out invariably criticizing ND’s schedule.

I mean everyone hates ND. But you have to admire how he brought them out of the woods. I’m concerned about his ceiling TBH but the floor will be way higher than now.

Almost all of us would have taken Riley (myself included), and the same can be said about him.

I'm not a fan, but with the above in mind are we trying to hire stats/flash (offense) or a good coach? Being objective out loud to myself here.

Yeah, Kelly has as much chance to be successful in the SEC as Riley did based on what hard facts we have to go on. I'd say on recruiting Kelly is better because he and ND do recruit nationwide on a broad based spectrum of positions.

Does that mean he will be successful in the SEC? Who the hell knows. But, again, I think he has a better chance than Riley and I would have taken him in a heartbeat.

First off, it’s not a sexy hire, but it is a solid one. Secondly, LSU is badly in need of a culture change in the program, and Kelly will do that. That said, I find it hard to believe that he was Woodward’s top choice all along, but he’s a helluva better back up plan than Stoops, O’Brien, and even Kiffin.
