Because the Left purely operates on the idea that the end justifies the means.
It doesn't matter who you are supporting them, as long as you can be useful, it's totally fine. It doesn't matter what the situation is, context is useless, just that they win.
They aren't defending them, they just really don't care that this is about bad people because they will get to their end by whatever means necessary.

Once you remove universal truth in God from your life you can and will justify any evil you are tempted by.
