CFB has evolved to where no defense can consistently shut down the good offenses. It’s much easier to put together a defense that can slow teams down/force some turnovers than it is to piece together an offense to keep up with elite scoring teams.

This is somewhat true but not entirely. You still need a defense that can get stops consistently. You can’t fully rely on an offense to score every possession. Georgia for example, has a great defense and we’ll see if their offense can do enough and that is where I agree with you partially. There has to be a good balance between the two.

Take Daronte. Is he actually now some elite DC that finally figured things out? Or is he just a decent coach that realized hey I have some great athletes so let me move these guys around to create some chaos and maybe we can get enough stops to give our offense a chance against Alabama? It doesn’t take a genius to do that.

So, Peleni would work for you as a DC then? No one is winning championships with that shite arse fricking defense.

Offense, on the other hand, is harder to fake or just find something that works. It takes a consistent philosophy and, more importantly, consistently recruiting to fit that philosophy.

I agree, but you need the same thing on defense. You can’t just focus on one side of the ball and expect to win. Both will have off days and you have to be able to make up for it when one isn’t at their best. Thinking one sided like that is what you get in the Big 12 most of the time and why they can’t compete consistently.

A revolving door of OCs will condemn LSU to another decade of up and down years with little consistency when it comes to truly competing against the elites.

While I agree, the same is true on the defensive side of the ball. If you have a terrible defense and your offense has an off day, you’re fricked. If you have a consistent defense that can keep you in games, you always have a chance to win. That’s why you need a balance of both and not a top notch offense and terrible defense or the other way around. You’re always going to have to rely on coordinator hires one way or the other. Do you think we’d win the championship in 2019 with the 2020 Peleni defense? Doubtful.

No one is saying this or expects it.

There is a difference in Pelini and finding a competent DC that can find a way to get key stops or timely turnovers to give an elite offense the room it needs to succeed.

Plenty of guys could come in and do what Daronte has this year imo.

Maintaining consistent, or at least a workable, philosophy on defense through coordinator changes is much easier on defense than offense imo.
