after 2 weeks in a row of allowing sub par offenses do well, and with lackluster performances against Appy State and UNT, it's starting to get to the point where this looks like it's going to be the pattern for the year

the pass D has looked a lot more suspect than the run D. the biggest problem with run D is tackling

LSU appears to be playing a lot more man coverage this year, but we're not really blitzing much (like we did under bo p)

our DBs play well for the most part, but mccray still can't cover, and if our CBs are forced on islands for too long, the WRs will get open (we saw this a lot against appy state and UNT when their QBs would roll out...somewhat against AU)

our DL is not living up to the hype in terms of pass rushing. we're also not really blitzing much, so the problems with giving WRs enough time to get open keeps coming up. they're also playing very aggressive and overpursuing a good deal

our LBs have looked bad in pass coverage. really bad. the move to more man has left them 1-on-1 with RBs and they've had some serious problems. MSU was really picking on this weakness

what is our deal with getting to the QB soooo many times without bringing him down??? Are they just trying to make such big hits instead of just wrapping 'em up???

I can't figure out if it is blown assignments or just bad mix-matches.

but the middle is open all day long.

Danny McCray. The QB didn't even go through his fricking progression. He stared down that reciever and he still got fricking burnt. He is aweful, hawkins sucked it up and we need beckwith back badly.

I'll give you my 2 cents on this.

Our DL has not been as dominant as expected. I think part of this is the types of teams they played early on. All ran some form of the spread, and they were kept of balance greatly in the Auburn game. This isn't because Auburn is a great offense, but they did do a good job of confusing the team.

Blitzing and creativity in blitzing has lacked with this team. It seems the Co-DCs are trying to put their stamp on this defense and make sure its obvious they are not just using Bo's schemes. They also have quicker CBs this year and feel they can handle man-2-man.

Overall, two things have cost us in pass coverage:

1) McCray. He got burned for at least 40 yards if not more against Auburn. We need a CB or faster safety (Francois perhaps?) if we are going to force a safety into that position, but McCray is not quick enough to be that nickel back.

2) Our LBers get lost in coverage, and this is what really worries me. Riley watched the running back and never reacted until well after the pass was thrown. I saw this thrice tonight, the last being the final TD. The coaches need to make these guys react and make judgments on the field. It's like they play scared in coverage trying not to commit too much. We can't give up 5 to 10 yards a play on screens like that.

Most of the damage tonight came as a result of three things. 1) Lack of pressure and 2) outlets to the RBs, and 3) Missed tackles

Well if our boys were perfect then they wouldnt need to practice. Ill take a 4-0 start any day. I think it was 1998 we ended the season 4-7. These are good times and people still complain. sad sad fans.

Kirston Pittman is a pretty good rusher when he is on, problem is that he's streaky. I really think that our LBers just get lost when it comes to coverage. They never commit out of fear of getting burned and this results in getting burned.

Lighten up tigerbill...no ones denying these are good times...the guys are simply critiquing what they feel are weaknesses in our defense which was supposed to be a strength for us this year, at least up front. Doesnt take a rocket scientist to see something is wrong.

i think it's part that, but our LBs seem inconsistent (esp without beckwith)

Bingo! I did not like the idea of 2 defensive coordinators from the get go. There should only be 1 making the defensive calls.

In part the D has underachived due to over confidence. They apparently think teams will just roll over. Hopefully Miss St. will have sent a wake up call.

gmoney, only one does make the play calls. Mallory makes the play calls during games. Basically the only thing they do "Co" is planning for the game.
