Anyone have experience playing any of the courses around Augusta or Aiken, SC? They all jack up their rates during Masters week, so I’m wondering which one is worth the money. No, we are not doing Champions Retreat at $3,000/foursome, so scratch that one off the list.

Right now focused on Forest Hills or Palmetto. But open to other options.

Call Waynesboro Country Club or Applewood.

They are not fancy pants places, but I’ve enjoyed playing at Applewood.

Mount Vintage or Sage Valley are great golf courses...Palmetto is fun old course too.

Getting on Palmetto is tough.

Sage too.

May need to go a little further from Augusta to find decent rates.

I like Country Club of Lexington County in SC.

Call Savannah Lakes. It’s probably 45 minutes to an hour north. 2 courses.

We’re doing Sea Pines before heading to Augusta…playing Harbor Town before it closes.

How are you getting on Palmetto?
Do they take public tee times for Masters week?

I’ve always wanted to play there, but it’s pretty exclusive.

The greens evidently make the course. Kisner lives there.

Played Ashton Hills in Covington, GA. It’s less than 2 hours outside Augusta but they didn’t hammer us with price gouging. Only got 9 in due to rain :(

Yep, not cheap, but they open it up for Masters week.

Palmetto is probably worth it.

Forest Hills you could play almost any day except during Masters week for $35.

I want to say we played Midland Valley on the Thursday of the Masters, we had Wednesday practice round tickets, the course wasn't great, but it was nice enough and didn't cost a fortune.

Consider going to Statesboro to play the Georgia Southern University course.

It’s about 90 minutes to 2 hours away on the way to Savannah.

Once you get a little ways from Augusta, then price gouging stops.

It is a very well maintained course. The prices are incredible low.

The greens are very good.

For the money, it’s a great course.

Reynolds Plantation is a good selection.

Plenty of wonderful courses and they can arrange transportation over and back to The National.

Little pricey, but worth it.

Check out Cuscawilla.

It’s about 90 minutes west of Augusta.

Maybe they have a deal for you.

I am a member at CR and play golf all over the Augusta area. Given OPs context you can immediately take CR, sage, Reynolds, cuscawilla, palmetto and ACC off your list. They are all private and $200 or more unaccompanied on a random Tuesday, masters week you will pay 3-5 times that. Lexington CC is a goat patch and it’s private as well.
For your budget Savannah lakes is the ticket in McCormick. Monticello is on the lake if you want views. I prefer Tera’s layout.
I’m not gonna tell you to play Belle Meade in Thomson because the front 9 is literally a links course in a field but they did replace their greens in the last year or two and they are in great shape.
Any course worth a damn in Augusta and Aiken jacks their rates of 5x during masters week. It is what it is that’s how it’s always been.

It’s not that bad.

The greens were excellent the last time I went.

Of course, that was during the months long greens renovation at West Lake so I probably am over rating the course. Being on temps for several weeks makes anything look better.

I’ve played Belle Meade after the new greens. It’s a interesting layout. The front is fairly open, but the back reminds me of a mountain course at times.

Forest Hills makes bank that week. For a course that gets tons of play, it is in great shape.

You did good. You won’t be disappointed

When we played there on the Monday before the ‘98 Masters, there were several players in the tournament that played it to avoid the crowds

I four putted twice. The greens are legit, but the course is playable.

We stayed at the house of a member and were able to get on
