Undoubtedly at taxpayer expense.

Man hospitalized with seizures discovers tapeworm was in brain for decades

A man hospitalized with mysterious seizures and an "altered mental status" had tapeworms living in his brain for decades, according to researchers.

In a case study published last week in The New England Journal of Medicine, experts from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School said the 38-year-old man was initially evaluated following his first seizure and had been "speaking gibberish."

Call me a compassionate conservative, but I don't have a problem with my tax dollars going to something constructive like removing worms from a man's brain. There's a lot more wasteful useless bullshite the government does than that.

After Katrina, many of the Mexicans who came over for the recovery had TB... They would come to the ER and we'd do PPDs (TB skin test) to see if they were exposed to TB. They had to come back 2 days later to have it read. Some would come back, some not. But some of the ones who came back would have major positive test and had to be treated for TB...

I had no idea Tapeworms could move to the brain. I've always thought they stayed in the GI system. I learn new stuff everyday.

Me neither…… if he is deported immediately after his eyes line back up and the stitches hold.

But no.. we will turn him loose, put him and his family on Medicaid if they aren’t already, give him disability payments, and he will be on his taxpayer paid for phone to his family in Guatemala telling them how much free shite they can get if they come.

Then you have 20 more fricken people on their way here.

OMIGOD!!!!

I'll have nightmares the rest of my life - when I was young, my mother told me about tapeworms and scared the shite out of me.

By the time I reached my teens, I'd expunged that from my mind.

NOW - 70 years later, you tell me about TAPEWORMS!!!!

No sleep for me forEVAH again.

I agree. Now if he was just a mental defective who wanted to cut his dick off and become a woman, that I have a problem with.

For every life saving surgery that happens under this line of thinking, there are hundreds of thousands of people receiving drugs that they don’t need. Which we taxpayers pay for.

This is not unheard of. I did a case 3 or 4 years ago. Illegal immigrant showed up at an academic center suffering near identical symptoms and thought there was a tumor in her ventricle. Got in and found a parasite! All on our dime!

It’s probably Echinococcus granulosa. Dogs are the primary host for this small tapeworm. The larval stage can be found in sheep, pigs, goats or cattle after ingesting the eggs found in dog feces. Ingesting the larva or eggs can result in hydatid disease, cysts of varying size that can affect organs throughout the body.

It is rare in North America but frequently found in Central and South America. It is usually transmitted by food/water contamination with dog feces or ingesting the organs of intermediate hosts such as sheep. It is most common in people who raise sheep.
