The Gulch is a "safe" popular place. It has your typical boutique shops and restaurants. It is in West Nashville close to Vanderbilt's campus. We stay downtown close to Broadway. My wife and I go a few times a year and avoid the BS there, though. We have a few spots in Printers Alley we like to hang. Food wise, it is average. Never been blown away by a place there, but we go for drinks and music. There is a few BBQ places around Vanderbilt that are decent.

Cheekwood for Christmas lights. Not far from Vanderbilt, just to the west. Kinda like city park lights in Nola but 1,000x better and only walking. Hattie B's hot chicken. To many things to list in the music row area.

Bar hopping down Broadway is touristy but a lot of fun. The Standard is a high end, very good restaurant.

Even my country-hating kids loved the Country Music Hall of Fame. Make sure you include the Studio B tour also. If a band called 'Tim Akers and the Smoking Section' is playing, gotta go. Made up of some of Nashville's best musicians, they get together and jam fairly often.

Country Music Hall of Fame + Studio B tour
The Johnny Cash Museum was really nice, and was fairly new when we went.
Go inside the Ryman - preferably for a show, but at least do the tour.
If you are out by Vandy, visit the Parthenon in Centennial Park. A full sized replica of the one in Athens, including the Athena statue inside. The basement of the building is an art museum.
See a show at the Bluebird if you can get tickets.

It's a drive (where Natchez Trace Parkway ends at Hwy 100), and you need to get there early or be prepared to wait, but eat at the Loveless Cafe.
Husk Nashville made Eater's 2016 list of 38 essential places to eat in the US.
Bakersfield Tacos & Tequila at the corner of 3rd Ave S and Demonbreun.

If you are at all interested in any hiking/nature stuff, I'd recommend Radnor Lake.

Radnor Lake is beautiful, and has tons of wildlife. Deer, turkey, eagles, owls, etc everywhere.

It's almost in Nashville. It's in the suburbs. It's about a 4 mile walk around the whole thing. We went a few weeks ago and it was gorgeous even though it was a cloudy day.

You probably could. I haven't used Uber there as my daughter is in school there and has a car.
