I was fortunate enough to have both of those mustangs. My 78 was yellow and black with T-Tops and my GT was red, T-tops but without the black stripe on the hood. Both hauled arse.

Bitter-Sweet thread subject...
The 80s appeared to be the LAST decade the following graded high to various degrees:
1) Liberty
2) Happiness
3) Hope
4) Culture
5) Overall Life
Frankly, all of the above began perceptively falling off a cliff by the late 80s and early 90s (Did the Bush / Elites NWO implementation force the beginning of the end?)
AFTER 9/11 began the obvious degradation of quality of life & liberty.

Just in major inner cities, I think.

It's pretty obvious that some of you don't know shite about the 80s...or have really bad taste in music and movies.

As a matter of relative comparison (in YOUR opinion) which era or decade is/was 'The Greatest'?

I have a ton of nostalgia for the 80s. A time period I wasn’t even alive for.
The best time in modern American history. Capitalism and patriotism were thriving and we haven’t been as united as a country since.

I was a kid in the 80s. It was awesome. Early 90s were pretty good too

music from the 80s isn't in the same universe as music from the 60s (and 70s). it's not even close.

I wasn't alive during all of these but all decades that are remembered fondly had some issues. In the 60s it was Vietnam, 70s massive inflation and gas shortages, 80s/90 crack epidemic, crime.

I was 20 in 1990. Anyone over the age of 45 and under 60 knows the greatness that was the 80s.
70s>90s too, while we're at it. The 90s only seem great in comparison to the 21st century.

The early 90s and late 80s were almost indistinguishable. It was really the explosion of the internet that started changing things.

Most people that age across any decade will tout that decade's greatness because the youth are mostly shielded from the bad things happening in that decade.

bullshite. The first half of the 60s, music was trash. frick a bunch of teeny boppers, Motown, and folk music. The 80s had something for everyone. New Wave, Pop, Metal, R&B, the birth of hip hop and rap.
The 70s were probably a better decade for music, from beginning to end. But that's only because music in the second half of the 80s was pretty weak.

Correct. I'm sure there were some left over in early 80s, but LP's and ESPECIALLY cassettes were the 80s.
8trac is straight 70s

Here's the problem with that claim; can't EVERY decade in American history be said to have "some issues"?
If the criteria of issues is "relative", then the 60s and 70s actually rates LOW on those bad issues and HIGH on the Quality of Life issues.
Revisionist Historians ONLY like to define the 60s and 70s by the Vietnam War and "The Hippie Movement". (Btw -- "war" has basically been a constant since 1913.)

I'm primarily an '80's kid, but I 100% agree with you on the music. '80's was a lot of goofy one-hit wonders and hair bands that don't hold a candle to '60's and '70's classic rock.
It was a great time to grow up. But, I feel like I missed out on some of the free love/drugs of the '70's. Then, in the '90's, kids were doing X and having rainbow parties. I remember some comedian said the '80's actually sucked because all the women were wearing baggy clothes and everyone was freaked out about AIDS.
And, unless you were in corporate America, you probably weren't snorting coke.

In the 60s it was Vietnam
My parents always talked about how great the 60's were. A decade where a president was assassinated, a presidential candidate was assassinated, 3 Civil Rights leaders were assassinated, multiple race riots and race motivated bombings, Vietnam and the sometimes violent protests it spawned, and on and on. The 60's was a very ugly decade in many respects.
And the thing is, every decade has ugly events that had impacts on society and culture.

Arguing about something like music is folly because it’s unbelievable subjective. Also, one can still listen to music from the 70s or 80s now, but with higher quality speakers and easier access.
