I thought they needed a young QB like a Rosen to try and develop. I forgot that Payton is NOT a developer of QB's. He signed Brees who already was developed by the Chargers. Now the Saints need to sign Wilson or Rogers for Payton to continue his success. But he prefers reclaimation project rejects like Winston and Siemien.

Because that's what he can afford...

We built this team thru the draft and paid as many of those guys as we could while also letting several good players walk

If we had drafted say, Josh Allen, we'd be paying him $40 million a year and Latt, Ram, etc would all be gone

The same Rosen who wasn't that good at UCLA and has been HORRIBLE in the NFL? A guy that was so bad, the team that picked him in the first round selected ANOTHER QB in the first round of the next draft because it took less than a year to figure out Rosen wasn't worth shite.

And where is the grand plan the Saints were supposed to have? For the last 10 years or so the Saints have routinely picked outside of the range where the top rated QBs are taken. The one recent year they were in range (2017) the Saints were set to take a guy named Pat Mahomes. It took KC making a massive and unexpected move from 27 to 10 to get him. And it is not like the Saints have whiffed on the guy the did take at 11 that year.

The Saints had a HOF QB and were trying to win a Super Bowl. When you have a guy like that you go all in because there is no guarantee you'll ever get another one. As far as replacing Brees the Saints' options were (1) try to get a good back end 1st round or later QB. (2) Land a good vet in free agency.

As for the first, other than Lamar Jackson (who many passed on) there hasn't great QBs available once you get out of the first half of the first round. As for the second, teams don't generally let great veteran QBs hit the FA market. That said, the Saints were able to find a former #1 pick and multi-year starter in FA (Winston) on a VERY cheap deal (two very cheap deals, in fact). The guy was lost for the season after just over 6 games. Was Winston looking like a HOFer? Of course not. But I'm not quite sure what "succession" plan you think the Saints should have implemented...but didn't

You have to know this is a terrible argument, right? Drew got waaaaay better under Sean, Teddy reignited his career, Taysom became an actual qb, Winston was much improved. And we have drafted 1 qb in the top 3 rounds his entire time here. So he was 0 for 1 and your argument is he can't develop qbs?

Good god you're an idiot. The Saints havent had the position in the draft to pick up a top quality QB out of College. So to pick up a top QB you have to trade for one. The Saints have picked up who they can. Lmao what the frick are you talking about with "Sean doesn't Develop QBs." Brees wasn't "Developed" by the Chargers. He was a top QB coming out of college from Purdu e. In fact the Chargers completely fricked up and brought in another shittier QB in Rivers while they still had Drew Brees. They didn't develop him. There isn't a lot of "Development" of QBs in the NFL. Also the last time the Saints had a pick close enough to grab a top QB, word got out that Payton wanted Mahomes. Andy Reid and the Chiefs traded up one spot ahead of the Saints and drafted Mahomes.
