Freddie is coming back.

Devil's advocate. He will likely give a hometown discount but how much will he actually give?

Article I read earlier said they already have $121 million on the books for next year. They started the season with a $130 million payroll. Even if they are willing to bump up to $150 million, that leaves nothing for anyone else through arbitration and keeping some of the outfielders that played huge roles this year.

Hopefully I'm wrong on those numbers. I can't find a legit site that has the up to date contract numbers. The ones I've looked at still have d'Arnaud and Morton as free agents. But if those numbers are right, unless AA is given a $175+ million opening day payroll, Freddie's new contract may hamstring this team for years.

The good news is this team doesn't need a ton this offseason. Figure out what to do with the outfielders, add a bench piece or two, maybe add another starter.

6/$160M for Freddie does scare me. That kind of deal carries a lot of risk. I know they've got to try and keep him but they shouldn't overpay to do it. I know fans can't think like this, but AA has to consider what the backside of a deal like that will look like.

The first post of this thread has as accurate of numbers as anyone outside of the front office would have. We are between 121M-126M right now, and that includes the projected arbitration salaries for the guys we will likely keep. Money will not be the reason that Freddie doesn't sign, because the money is there. If he doesn't sign it's because him and the team aren't close to the years of the contract, but I can't see that happening.
