There is a $7M mutual option. I would expect he would opt out of that on his end and collect the $3M buyout. However he is still under team control even if the team or player opts out of the $7M guarantee, meaning his salary would be determined by arbitration (estimated $9M). So he could technically get $12M or so in total.
Very complicated situation that seems ripe for a two year extension that gives him another year guarantee and takes away all the hoops that would have to be jumped through to determine his 2022 salary if the Braves want him back.

You'd think that if the player opted out, he wouldn't get the buyout. Should only go into effect if the team opted out. But I know that's not how the contracts work.
