5 years $376,000. Not a second or penny longer.

I don't really want to call Crane cheap because he's paid high salaries in the short term and paid out on more bargain extensions like Altuve and Bregman. But the apparent company policy of contracts no longer than 5 years and xx dollars means were never going to keep guys like Yed and Ted unless they sign below market extensions before FA like Bregs and Altuve did.

I think there’s a possibility they do, especially Yordan, considering he’s a DH and has an injury history. I don’t think Crane is cheap necessarily, he just has hard lines in the sand on things like long term contracts like you referenced that he won’t cross

If we are in contention in July and there’s a high salaried player with a few years left on his deal that fits for us in a trade, I fully expect him to be okay with pursuing that player.

I’m fine being smart with your money and not signing or keeping big-ticket free agents if you have other options that can emerge and match production or come close.

But if that’s your philosophy, you better damn well nail the free agents you do sign. Pedro Baez has yet to do shite in a year and going into year 2, his velocity isn’t what it was when he was with the Dodgers. Waste $12.5 million over 2 years on a reliever, especially when relievers are the potentially most volatile commodity from year to year.

I’ll eat crow if this guy eventually pans out this year but it’s not looking good.
