I know for a few years now it has been this way, but I’ve always wondered, why do LSU and Bama each have a bye week before they play each other every year?

Because they each hate each other and want to "rest up and prepare" and also because InsecureU acts like they don't care about LSU and its their Superbowl so they want to make sure they are refreshed.

It used to be a competitive important game that decided the west. Both teams lobbied for an off week because it was the most physical game of the year.
Now, not so much. But will be again on a few years

I always thought it would be better to have the bye for both teams AFTER this game...

Because this is the most talented team the other will face all year and typically decides who wins the SEC West.

Because previous LSU teams that were actually good could use a rest (bama too) and you have two sets of fresh star studded players making plays

Except we suck

Because if we had a competent head coach and coordinators with this talent we would be 8-0

Would be good to not have a complete fricking idiot preparing 2 weeks vs Saban preparing like the past 15 years

I would think an extra week to recover from the 1st 8 weeks of the season would be ideal. Also an extra week to add a few wrinkles and prepare is always good.
LSU had the bye before the game and bama didn’t. Saban complained to the league and they got their bye move to the week before

Because LSU and Bama both know the path to the SECCG goes through this game and they want to be as healthy and rested as can be for it. You lose this game and you are out for all practical purposes.

almost every team used to have a bye week before they played Alabama. The SEC limited the number of teams any 1 team had to face after the other had a bye.

I think Alabama played about 6 team coming off a bye week one year.
