Hi team, I recently moved to the Boston area and want to pick back up fishing as a hobby. I previously fished in the west coast (mainly crabs) but not familiar with east coast fishing + sold all my tools/rods before moving here.

I am looking for tips/recommendations on

1. Fishing areas
2. Fishing poles
3. How do you fish during winter/freezing temps?
4. Other useful gear
5. Bait

Please treat this as if I am 6 years old as I am lost.

With a 30-06. You won't find me pier fishing in the middle of winter.

But

Stop always casting away from the pier. The fish are usually right around the structure. Species dependent of course.

Friends used to catch bluefish and strippers off jetties, another guy made an annual stripper trip to a canal and hauled them in over 2 days.

Suggest looking on Instagram as well

Strippers or stripers? I know they catch some big stripers in Narraganset Bay near Naval Station Newport. That's not terribly far from Boston.
