As I understood it, and my son had to go for math a few summers, it's like a fifth "quarter" or grading period. So if you do well, it gets averaged with the four quarters of the school year to get the credit for the year.
A student in credit recovery, even it pulls his average way up, can only be given a C for the year if he goes to credit recovery.
