Talk with someone at either the VFW or American Legion if you are eligible to join either organization. If not, reach out to the DAV. They are very helpful as well.

I first went through a guy who coordinated/initiated va disability claims from my medical records for no charge since he was working for the va

This allowed me to have several dr’s appointments

I originally wasn’t pleased with my rating at 40%, so I went through my ebenefits account and started doing reconsiderations in addition to setting up new conditions I had that was due to a previous condition that I received disability for.

For instance, I tore my left Pec while deployed in 2013. Since that’s my dominant side my shoots and elbow also got impacted and I set up claims for that.

Currently I’m at 80% and trying to get a few more things looked at as well

DD214, Medical records, I would seek out someone to help you in this process, Veterans of Foreign Wars could help. It’s what they do. You definitely need your medical records.

Trump ad made it possible for vets to go to another dr , rather then wait for months to see a VA doctor. My BIL was vet ,I saw the crap he had to go through before Trump passed law to help with that issue.

Contact your via service rep. Every county has one. They will start the process for you. Like others have said get your records and have copies. Don’t give the originals.

Complete VA Form 21-526EZ (online or paper). Gather any and all medical records you can from both private and military health providers (attached is a link to the request for medical records). I wouldn't use a veterans service organization to do anything but help you with the initial filing. If your initial request for compensation is denied, hire an attorney to file a Notice of Disagreement. They'll take 20% of your past due benefits, but someone who specializes in these kinds of claims is invaluable.

As another poster said, it's pretty much all done through ebenefits now. You will need to register for an account and that is how you will track your claim's progress.

Additionally, there is a very active and helpful subreddit for VA disability. I would suggest posting any questions there, as the responses will be better.
