If you feel that the death penalty is a wonderful deterrent hen why is the murder rate going up? The truth is the death penalty does not work and it costs a lot more in legal costs due to all of the appeals.

It is way cheaper to give them a plea bargain of life without parole and take appeals off of the table

As to the thought that life without parole is easy on the prisoner then I suggest you go to Angola for a tour or talk to anyone recently released. If you think the death penalty using injections is easy then volunteer to go watch an execution.

As to the thought that they should be executed the way they killed their victim, read the bill of rights.

all that said, I am in favor of the death penalty for extreme crimes involving children.

I would argue that is not a cruel and unusual punishment. It is really fair and just to go out the same way your victim did. I'm cool with the no excessive bail or fines though

Who is getting executed? It usually takes 30 years or more, which is ridiculous. Look back at violent crimes that happened in the 30s and 40s and they were usually executed within 2 years of committing the crime.

A guy that I went to high school with murdered his girlfriend by setting her on fire inside her car. It wasn't one of these cases where a conviction came on flimsy, circumstantial evidence. There was no doubt that he did it and it still took the state of TN 35+ years to carry out his sentence.

He committed the crime in the late 80s and was finally executed 2 or 3 years ago.

Didn't realize that we were using it that much.

Don't let them continually appeal for 30+ years then.

Wouldn't be if they stopped letting convicted people make appeals to their heart's content.

I don't believe in lethal injection. I believe in public hangings and/or firing squads. I'm not saying that life without parole is easy. What I'm saying is that it shouldn't exist. If you've committed and are convicted of a crime that carries the sentence of life, then you should be killed. Period.
