I was terminated by a Fortune 50 company last Friday because of this. Most unorganized approach to a firing I have ever seen. I had to write a letter to have it documented that I was not resigning, quitting, or mutually departing and was being fired. I think they just assumed people would comply.

Also, interesting note, I was terminated before my Medical Exemption request had been review/declined by the ADA. That felt odd to me, that no due process was granted. Every day I hung around was more money.

That was an aggressive deadline if last Friday was the cutoff date.

Some companies are being very anal about this, others not so much. Some companies are only applying it to workers who come into the office, others are extending it to those who work 100% remotely. It's a literal shitshow in motion.

Shitshow in motion is about as accurate as you can be. Our requirement was for employees returning to 11 of our largest facilities. Seemingly on a whim, the Executive Leadership Team said, "Nope, blanket this to all outside BD as well". I've been working nearly 100% remote for 18 months and when I filed the accommodation, the response was, "sorry, no accommodation for outside sales due to possible customer interaction".

Fortunately I can last awhile and have already had a few customers reach out with openings if needed. Gonna take some time to really see what I want to do.

Precisely what the administration wanted. They wanted this, and strove for it. Companies that are so scared of one negative tweet, and so reactionary to anything approaching politics, that they would leap from the bridge as soon as Joe said “jump.”

The companies are to be faulted here. They and their corporate boards are adhering to these directives willingly and without fighting.
