Definitely a revolver. It won’t jam and will shoot any 22lr ammo you can find.

I have several semiautos. Not the Buckmark people are suggesting, but I have a Ruger Mk II, which is just as popular and reliable. Also have a High Standard Sportking, a Beretta 21A and a S&W 22A.
No matter how great the pistol is, you have to consider the AMMO. 22lr is rimfire, which is going to be a lot more unreliable than a centerfire cartridge. Even with the cheap steel 9mm, I haven't got a dud yet. But with various bulk 22, I have occasionally had a FTF.
OP mentioned 'snakes'... the last thing you want to do with a poisonous snake is to have a misfire. At least with a DA revolver, you can just pull the trigger again; with any semiauto pistol you have to rack the slide.
I have an old H&R Sportsman, 9 shot cylinder. You can't go wrong with something like that.
