I think so... the one thing I always disliked about a lot of the hardcore bands is that many start veering towards more of a metal sound, after their early stuff...

A few of my favorites..

Cro-Mags - The Age of Quarrel
SS Decontrol - The Kids Will Have Their Say

Interesting thread because punk has diiferent sub sets within it ..ill approach it like this:

Favorite punk bands : Minor Threat and GBH
Favorite crossover bands--DRI Municipal Waste
Favorite hardcore bands -Cro Mags , Sheer Terror
Favorite straight edge band-- Youth of Today

My favorite 70's punk band, along with Talking Heads. Another one most wouldn't consider punk, but they came from the same CBGB scene.
