Trying to plan a guys trip to centreville as close to rut as possible. What’s the best weekend.? Full moon is December 19 if that helps

Somewhere between there and new years but typically a little closer to the 18-15 of December. At least where we hunt a few miles north of there anyway.

I hunted in centreville from 1996 till last year and I can tell you that I was never convinced that anyone could nail down the “rut” with any particular date. I used to see spotted fawns running around in December. I hunt in natchez now and it’s pretty similar. I start to see bucks moving more from the week before Christmas all the way to the end of January. The rut in southwest Mississippi is I think a long drawn out affair. If I had to pick a week it would probably be 1st week of January.

MS Deer Breeding Date Map
This is about as reliable as it gets. Individual does come in estrous by photoperiod and will be within a day or two every year. Your millage will vary based on buck:doe ratio on the property and if the weather is conducive to seeing deer. Peak “searching phase” will be approximately two weeks before the date on the map. An individual doe can be ready sooner or later than the map, and can make it seem like things are on fire in one particular spot, but the above dates will have the most hot does on average.

On my cameras the fawns didn't show up until late August and early Sept meaning the rut in my area (Silver Creek in Lawrence County) was mid to late Jan.

I hunt in Liberty and can tell you last year the rut didn't get good until after New years.

THAT WEEK. I USED TO SAY NY DAY WEEK, BUT THE LAST TWO YEARS WE KILLED ALL THE BIG ONES ON 12/16-12/19.

Full moon is irrelevant for the rut. Get a general consensus on when folks have seen the most chasing and seeking in that area and plan for that timing. If you can pick a large change in temp like a cold front. Not because it makes them breed any different it’s just that it cause deer movement and in return makes bucks chase them.
In years where it’s hot during the rut we don’t see movement during daylight but the does still get bred!!
