Tom Herman fiasco

How was this a fiasco? Herman was offered the job, but he wanted the Texas job. Some of you look too hard to find drama.

Do you remember correctly what happened?

Herman was announced the head coach on thanksgiving just before halftime. The half time show commenced with Mark May absolutely destroying our entire organization. Next thing you know, a former fired Ole Miss coach is our head coach.

So, I’m not sure what your definition of a fiasco is, but it was definitely a PR issue. Should it have been? No. Was ESPN or Mark may justified in absolutely thrashing us for offering a head coach a job? No. But that doesn’t change what was perceived and what transpired.

It was a fiasco because Alleva never actually wanted Tom Herman, went through the motions with his hire, and immediately told Herman to go frick himself when he understandably tried to use the Texas offer in his negotiation with LSU (if I remember correctly the direct quote is "frick you" into a hang up). There was also no serious number 2 candidate besides Ed even though Alleva didn't even want the number 1 pick (Leach would have been the second best external candidate). Do you not remember Alleva's victory lap SI article in 2019? Maybe Herman goes to Texas even if LSU plays ball, but Alleva never actually wanted him.

And this is more Ed than Alleva, but a big part of the Ed hire was that Kiffin would be the offensive coordinator...and we all know how that was a lie.
