completely incorrect. There were extensive war games using that exact scenario prior to 9/11

The documentary on Hulu I saw stated that the head of security believed it would happen…..but how do you defend buildings from something like that.

This.
People my age and older remember when plane hijackings were a two to 3 times yearly occurrence. They claimed there was a bomb to force the captain to land. Had small weapons to threaten to start killing passengers until demands were met.
Never was there a coordinated hijacking of multiple planes. And as mentioned never to be used as missles. The passengers just went along. Until word finally got to the Pennsylvania plane.

It had occurred to military planners. They knew the possibility and had prepared contingencies for just such a situation. HOWEVER, what they didn't plan on were hijacked domestic flights. Military planners only ever envisioned hijacked airliners coming from overseas. There were no contingencies in place for flights being hijacked and used as missiles from within the United States.

This. 20 years later there’s a different lens/context to look back upon but historically and up to that singular day, a hijacked plane usually would end with the plane landed/parked somewhere in the world with demands and negotiations while passengers remained on the plane, but alive.

Not true, it occurred to Ramzi Yousef when he was a part of the Bojinka Plot prior to 1995. Which means it occurred to the FBI, who investigated him.
