The only beach worth a crap is S Padre

I know people that swear by Galveston and I don’t get it. I’d rather drive a little further and have white sand and clear water

Galveston is like the Louisiana beaches

I mean, it is a perfectly fine place to run away to if you live in Houston.

But it isn't some pristine tourist destination at all, in my opinion. The whole feel of the place hasn't been the same since Ike.

This. Galveston is trash.

We did Cinnamon Shores in Port A last year and it was pretty nice. Not quite SPI level but definitely the best of Port A. The resort/neighborhood itself probably outshined the beaches themselves but we enjoyed staying there compared to any other places I’ve stayed in Texas.

1hr drive vs 7+ hr drive. It’s not really a weekend getaway option unless you’re flying.

Not exactly but pretty close.

We went to Kemah/Galveston area this past summer. The allure definitely is not the beaches. We stayed at a house on the Bay a little south of Kemah. It had a pier into the bay with lights for night fishing which was incredible....my nephew caught one of the biggest specs I've ever seen personally and I've fished a good bit out of Venice and Grand Isle.

We did other things that were fun for the kids but honestly it was a pretty relaxing 5 night getaway. I'd do it again. We rented a boat one day and scooted around Clear Lake and Galveston bay....that's when we did most of the swimming. There was a swimming hole in the Clear Lake area that was filled with boats....it was pretty fun everyone was swimming, drinking, partying, and playing music. The kids loved it.

This. All of this.

My family has a place south of Galveston near the NE tip of Matagorda Bay and the fishing is great but the beaches are terrible.
