My problem with the illegal streams is getting them to play on my tv.
I can do it on the phone but on the TV, half the time, I can't get rid of the popups or it doesn't play correctly.

Do you have a chromecast so that you can just cast the feed to your TV?

I’ve used Apple TV and amazon fire stick plugged into my tv and have never really had any issues. Whatever internet browser is on that device has worked for me. Once you know what sites have pop ups and what don’t, it’s easy.
