Really enjoyed it. Fight scenes were incredible
This is good to hear. When this movie was announced I was fresh off of watching the shitty Iron Fist show, which had horrendous martial arts choreography and execution.
I know that the movies and netflix shows are different...but I was still hesitant.

You're not! No Way Home, is not available to stream and Spiderman is A-list character. Black Widow is a B-Lister!

Tony Leung is a legend.
Awkwafina is fricking awful.

On top of that, Australia should be open again by then and it is still like 3 and a half months away so plenty of time for things to slow down.

I can see Eternals underperforming, but NWH's going to blow the doors off and Paramount is going to be standing there looking stupid with their dicks in their hands, having moved Maverick back to May 2022, now.

Many of the opening fight scenes reminded me of Crouching Tiger, and I'm sure that was deliberate.
DeathDealer was criminally underused to have such a badass costume.

first half definitely felt like a marvel take on the Crouching Tiger/Flying Daggers style to me. wish they had stayed along those lines, but that's because I love that stuff, though I understand the move later into the mystical realm. the cameo was amusing at first, but kinda got old for me after a while. that was the only real drawback for me. the villain having decent motivations was nice. not a top ten marvel flick for sure, but was fun to watch if you let yourself. phase four is going to be wild as frick in a good (I hope) weird way.

I’m going to see this tonight, but for my money, if marvel was intent on getting into the kung fu aspect of their lore, I really would’ve rather them go with Iron Fist. Except to do it good, and right. Not like that hot garbage, steaming pile of crap that Netflix put out

Mandarin felt like the main character.
They should’ve started Shang-Chi narrative with the assassination assignment and it should’ve been 2008, where he missed his window/or changed his mind
….to kill Tony Stark. (Falsely blamed by evil Dad) then he goes into hiding.
The early CGI was weak, but I understand why the good money was used for later
Would’ve benefited from less green screen.
The Ten Rings essentially make Shang Chi a target.
Katy/Kathy? jokes were a little flat.
The good-
Bus fight scene. Wong.the tourney. The comedic chemistry between the leads.
Karaoke. The mystical creatures. Trevor Slattery.
Middle of the road Marvel. But if you’re an Asian pop culture fanboy you’re going to love it.
The Suicide Squad was better.

Eternals is going to be big for Marvel.
Like surprise hit, if that’s even possible for Marvel now.
It’s a big deal, with a big deal cast and a big deal director.
The streaming and lockdowns make this hard to predict. It might get pushed back if Shang-Chi struggles.

I didn’t really read the thread about TSS, I thought it was great and I’ve been told I’m a DCEU hater. The only DCEU movie that was a good as that one was Shazam!
Shang Chi has interesting lore, and connects some shite.
The gate in the village.
The Mid Credit scene answers, at least somewhat, the biggest post Endgame question.

The shitty fan fic gimmick is already taken on this board.

big deal director
She’s directed 3 movies that have grossed a combined $32 million. She was a diversity quota hire plain and simple.

I think it’s time for your midday anti-depressants.
The Ten Rings/Mandarin kidnapped Tony. It would make complete sense in the timeline, for a teenage Shang Chi sent to kill Stark, because his Evil Dad told him to.
Or they should’ve shown the hit he actually did. He’s The Living Weapon.
Regardless, your weird obsession with “roles/gimmicks” on Tigerdroppings reeks as a cry for help. Please seek therapy.
And the director for The Eternals won Best Picture and Best Director. She’s a big deal. Young, but a big deal.

I know you guys always gotta come with this angle, but using your brain and common sense is also an option.
Marvel has a distinct plan and narrative that their movies have to fit into. Big time directors usually don't want to conform to this, that's why you see so many lesser known directors directing theses Marvel Movies. Some might say That the Russo brothers don't fall into that narrative, but IMO their biggest movie before the Marvel stuff was You, Me and Dupree LOL
So I know is popular to claim quota, diversity hire etc... When its not some well known white male director, but you have to realize those guys want to do their own thing and Marvel just isn't going to allow it. Theses quota hires are just happy to get a chance at a big budget film and are gonna take direction and stay on mission. DC lets their directors run amuck and the DCU is a total mess.
Quick example:
Patty Jenkins: Leaves Thor The Dark World, because she could do what she wanted.
Goes and gets all the credit for Wonder Women, Gets total Control over WW 1984 and damn near has ruined the franchise!
Christopher Nolen could never do a Marvel Movie. MCU example. but thanks to RDJ, Shane Black got too pretty much do as he pleased in IM3. Result by far the worst IM movie and one of the bottom tier MCU movies. That's just kinda how I see it. It not about 100% filling a quota and more about not having to deal with push back on keeping everything aligned with the MCU.
Posted on 9/3/21 at 2:26 pm to USMCTIGER1970
Yeah I would understand the filling the quota stuff more if most of these movies sucked but Marvel has at most missed the mark on 3-5 movies out of their 25. (12% to 25%)
I'm talking truly missed the mark. Just bad movies with no redeeming qualities.
At most they've had only 2 misses at the most IMO (Black Widow and Captain Marvel) since Captain America: The Winter Soldier 17 movies ago. And that's not to say Black Widow and Captain Marvel are even horrendous films.
Alot of the movies have been diverse so I don't see the problem.

I'd posit that it raises more questions than it answers... which is totally fine since everything in Phase 4 is ostensibly Act 1 of the larger Multiverse storyline.

The biggest question I’ve been asking is do The Avengers still exist? I think they do. Bruce is still around. Of course older and back to being Bruce which needs explanation, but he is still operating something, if by using his brilliant mind and experience only.
