We have heard from Mark Schlabach of ESPN as he laid out his bold predictions for the SEC and the LSU Tigers.

quote:

1. Let’s start it off blazing. Freshman quarterback Garrett Nussmeier showed he can be an absolute gunslinger in the two scrimmages during fall camp. After passing for six touchdowns and over 500 yards combined, Nuss proved that he might be more game-ready than expected.

For the very first bold prediction, let’s go with Nussmeier getting two starts this season and leading the Tigers to wins in both.

2. Last season the LSU Tigers finished with an abysmal 5-5 record needing wins over Florida and Ole Miss in the final two weeks to reach that mark. Going into this year, the expectations are much higher. Head coach Ed Orgeron reshuffled the coaching staff at the top, we will finally get to see if they make the difference starting at the Rose Bowl.

Record Prediction: 10-2 (2nd in the SEC West)

quote:

3. A clean sweep for SEC awards:

SEC Offensive Player of the Year: Kayshon Boutte

SEC Defensive Player of the Year: Derek Stingley Jr

SEC Special Teams Player of the Year: Cade York

quote:

4. The Tigers never got their 2020 matchup due to the pandemic-shortened season. Not only do we predict the 10-2 season, Texas will finish second in the Big 12 setting up the battle with the Tigers in Louisiana.

Bowl Prediction: LSU vs Texas in the All-State Sugar Bowl

quote:

5. The Tigers knew they needed to change it up on offense and Steve Ensminger moved to an analyst role with LSU. Head coach Ed Orgeron knew he wanted to bring back the Joe Brady offense, so he snagged two assistants from Brady in Carolina. The new passing game coordinator DJ Mangas and offensive coordinator Jake Peetz are expected to bring back the high-power offense.

Broyles Award Prediction: Jake Peetz takes the award just as Brady did in 2019

I'd say the record and bowl match-up are the most likely.

I dont see how he can say we'll go 10-2 and Nuss will play two games to win them.

Squat and watch....Orgeron better produce!!

There are some issues bubbling under the surface, potentially bringing mad-scientist’s (Aleva) insane experiment to the dust bins of LSU Athletics’ history.....

Isn't this the same guy who picked UCLA this weekend- and declared O as "being on the hot seat"?

He needs to make up his mind instead of trying to be right no matter what.

While all three are certainly capable of earning these distinctions, and as much as I would love to see this happen, Schlabach fails to observe the reality that a "sweep" of the POtY honors would be virtually impossible for three players on a team that he predicts to go 10-2 and finish second in the West.

In other words, it would be unusual for all three POtY winners to play on the same team, especially when that team does not win the division.

I'm not saying that we are not going to win the division or that Boutte, Stingley, and York are not going to be selected as POtY in their respective categories; I'm only highlighting the inconsistencies in Schlabach's predictions.

Talk is cheap. Geaux Tigers, beat UCLA!
