Thanks for posting the article. Law required her to request it. The political folks around her told her she would look weak if she did it. By the time she did it, the city was 6ft under and thousands dead. She received bad advice from incompetent people.

sure, the Constitution is a thing.

its more than bad advice. LA. citizens pays taxes like 49 other States.
to delay asking for the services that are anticipated in an emergency for political theater is criminal

“George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”
Mike Meyers is shocked
Cut to Chris Tucker who looks like he’s been caught with a 12 year old.

I have to say that I am truly amazed at the ignorance displayed by the OP.

.
16 years later you’re still asking this question, really?

The government repeatedly offered help to Nagin and Blanco before the storm but were rebuffed.

At least one such offer was for people to take spots on “deadhead” trains leaving New Orleans, as the trains needed to be relocated anyway and those people would get a free ride.

BTW having experienced Harvey from a position in County government I can say without hesitation the Red Cross is worthless in the immediate aftermath

the shelter I was running we didn't see them for at least a week it was the County, local citizens and the school district that stepped up

Except Nagin was begging for the feds from the get-go.

Nagin did fricking nothing to prepare for the storm. Nothing. Don’t give him a pass because he asked for help after it was too late. “Improper planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.”

I'm not giving him a "pass" outside of the specific discussion (and central point of THIS THREAD) with regard to seeking assistance from "the feds." He certainly did a lot of things shitty before and after, but that was not one of them. It's disingenuous to rope him into that aspect of it.

I figured it was more New Orleans Katrina based question and not as much political. Plus I didn't want the PT board answers.

Yep, you should ask people on this board since they know so much about young girls in bikinis and truck nuts.
