Because everyone is so judgmental of people from the past when you don’t even have a fraction of threats they had to deal with. Want a modern example, go over to Afghanistan.

I’m sure there’s an overreach of power going on here but it’s not like the cops were strolling by, saw people not wearing masks, pulled over and started beating the shite out of them no questions asked. It escalated from the mask issue but it’s weird to say they beat them entirely for just being unmasked.

I’m comfortable judging people of the past. Notably, the nazis that literally went to extreme efforts to exterminate the Jewish population.
Comparing that to covid measures is just silly. Arguments against current measures holds its own weight. I don’t get the over dramatic attempt to compare

Unless under the extreme circumstances (the unmasked cop I think is comparable) I tend to compare them to people who rat out to the Nazis, not the Nazis themselves. Rest assured, a ton of people were fricking cowards and while not Nazis and antisemites themselves, if they suspected their neighbors were hiding Jews, they’d rat them out to the Gestapo out of cowardice. “Hey, they knew hiding Jews was illegal, and if Gestapo suspected I knew that, then they’d kill my family. I know it’s fricked, but rules are rules.” That’s more what we’re seeing of now.

It’s not the genocidal Nazis I’m comparing them to (with the exception of the unmasked cop who I’m going to assume the absolute worst about), it’s being a rat. Any Karen who rats to the manager at this point about not wearing a mask at this point, all of them would have ratted out their neighbors to the Nazis for minor infractions even if they weren’t Nazis themselves.
