Trump absolutely wasn't respected. I'm not sure where this idea that he was respected is coming from.
NAFTA renegotiated, China was bending the knee on trade deals, Mexico was putting troops on the border to stem the flow of illegals into the US, five peace deals.
That’s where the idea comes from, progstain!

NAFTA is a bad example of what Trump was able to accomplish.
NAFTA was started by Reagan and continued with Bush HW. The first part of NAFTA started between the US and Canada 1/1/1989 known as CUSTA.
Democrats and Canada did not want Mexico involved in the trade agreement. Reagan and Bush finally got Canada to agree and it became law in 1994. Clinton gets credit for it, but it was mainly Reagan that got this trade agreement going.
In the 2008 presidential debate between Obama and HRC both said they wanted to withdraw from NAFTA. After the election Obama admin started the ball rolling on withdrawal from NAFTA, but could not get the GOP on board.
This is the reason USMCA was a passed with bipartisan approval. It had nothing to do with Canada and Mexico on withdrawal. It finally passed when Trump got his own party to support it.
Democrats that were against the withdrawal from NAFTA were only doing it because they didn’t want Trump to accomplish anything. Republicans that supported USMCA did because they were afraid of Trump.

Big US investment banks investing hundreds of billions in China after Trump signed the phase 1 deal he tariffed Americans to get.
Can anything be more globalist than that?????
He bamboozled millions of his followers about the goals of that trade war AND about the accomplishments of NAFTA 2.
