Are those the Two Trees of Valinor?

Yea. The series is supposed to take place in the 2nd age, but this is a photo from the 1st age. I didnt think Amazon has the rights to the 1st age.

Well, there are a couple possibilities here.

First thought, we could have a prologue, like the LOTR movies did. Jackson didn't have the rights to the 2nd Age, but could show the Last Alliance in order to set the stage.
So... technically the image is from BEFORE the First Age- the Ages start with the Sun and Moon. The Trees were before that.
This could be a flashback, showing:
a) the first Elves to come to Valinor (the 3 Houses of the Eldar),
b) it could be Galadriel... she saw the Trees and her hair caught the light of Laurelin, the golden tree
quote:

The Silmarillion repeatedly states that those Elves who saw the Two Trees were mighty, with the light of Aman in their faces. As vassals of the Valar, the trees somehow bestowed otherworldy power and understanding on those exposed to them. Galadriel in particular had an affinity to Laurelin, as her hair was said to have captured the golden light of that tree.

c) this could be Melkor/Morgoth, on the way to destroy the Trees... Ungoliant could be just out of view, behind him.
d) it could be Sauron, looking upon the trees, before he turned to service with Melkor; I don't know when he swapped sides. But he originally was a Maia in the service of Aule.

It's hard to tell much on the person, because while I think the figure's hip is wide (and thus female), that could be pose. And the neck and shoulders look broad, suggesting male. Looks to be a sword on the left side; something straight is coming away.

Any of these possibly could be in a prologue, explaining what's up. If it's Elves in general, it explains the Elves; if it's Galadriel, it gives her early history as well (and I'm pretty sure she's the last Elf left in Middle Earth to have seen the Trees in person).
If it's Sauron or Morgoth, it shows the beginnings of the overall conflict.

One other possible source of the image: the Palantirs (the Seeing Stones). Gandalf remarked (in the books, I don't remember if he touched on it in the movies), that with at least 1 of the Stones, you could look back on Eldamar, and apparently back in time if you chose. He mused on the idea of watching Feanor craft the Silmarils through one. Feanor made the Silmarils while the Trees were still alive, so if you could watch him, you certainly could look at the Trees too.

I think it's very intriguing, because this shows a pretty deep dive into Tolkien lore, not just a casual "let's have Elves" thing. That's encouraging to me, the more they stay true, the better it should be.
And any hints of Valinor and the Valar may indicate just how much money they are going to spend... that's basically a glimpse into Heaven/Eden. I don't think they do that on the cheap.

I mean I guess i've gone forever mistakenly thinking that the 1st age began with the creating of the two trees. There wasnt really a chronological way of keeping track of time/years before the two trees right? But we know the trees did and that the 1st age lasted 500+ years. But i've also always thought that there wasnt necessarily a definite time of when the 1st age started so I went with the creation of the two trees because that made the most sense to me as far as actually keeping track of time and I know that others have felt the same. I think

That was my guess. But I wasnt exactly thinking outside the box like this...

quote:

c) this could be Melkor/Morgoth, on the way to destroy the Trees... Ungoliant could be just out of view, behind him.
d) it could be Sauron, looking upon the trees, before he turned to service with Melkor; I don't know when he swapped sides. But he originally was a Maia in the service of Aule.

Thats deep.

My guess it's Feanor before he crafted the Silmarils and Morgoth destroyed the trees.

Also, Melkor used a spear to wound the trees, not a sword.

I’m fairly certain Sauron openly joined Melkor during the Years of the Lamps. I think once Melkor created his fortress of Utumno is when Sauron declared himself for Melkor, so I don’t think Sauron ever saw the Trees.
