They melt down the cats, and extract the precious metals. Likely then sell the metals back to manufacturers to make new cats, who sells them back to you.....So you are helping the environment by recycling your old cat.

They’d have to steal a ton of cats to get anywhere close to that amount. And the amount of work to harvest it is insane
