It's really not all that hard with the proper file to sharpen the chain yourself.

Hell, buying a new chain on-line is probably cheaper than bringing a chainsaw to a place to have the chain sharpened and then having to go back and pick it up.

Almost all lawnmower shops will sharpen them. Give or take $7 a chain depending on the size. Like another poster mentioned I let a pile build up then bring them in. $7 is better than a new chain on the ones I run..

For $40 you can buy your own sharpener and grinding disc wheel at Harbor Freight. Set it up on your own bench, and DIY.

Just get a hand file. Only takes a few minutes. Be sure to touch up your rakers too

After Hurricane Michael I didn't have many options and bought the Stihl hand sharpener. Live oak is pure hell on chainsaw blades as it turns out. Works great, doesn't take long and it's dummy proof. It was $40 if I remember correctly, and there are generic versions that are half that or less. They probably work just as well, and it's nice to do a quick touch-up and not wait until it's throwing burnt sawdust so you feel like you're get your money's worth from a sharpening service.

Already been said, but it takes one YouTube video and 10 mins to sharpen it as good as it needs to be. Buying a new one is fine but once you cut with a sharp chain you realize how quick it dulls every time you hit dirt, and sharpening yourself looks a lot better.

buy three more chains for 60 bucks and when they all go dull, the bring them in on a bulk-sharpen deal.
