Best answer is to put the dog in a crate until you can address why he is trying to break out.

Otherwise, maybe drill on a piece of plexiglass or HDPE (available at home Depot/Lowes)

He’s old and gets freaked out by loud noises (especially thunder). So every time it rains and we’re not home, he goes nuts. Crates don’t work cause he’ll rub his nose raw trying to get out, plus shite everywhere.
