I have a small area around our pool that receives a lot of foot traffic. It is very prone to dove weed and this year has been worse than ever. I’ve hit it twice with Celsius from a back pack sprayer and it appears this second dose has all but killed the Bermuda. Dove weed is looking strong. I’ve never had results like this. Any ideas what’s going on?

Also of note (or at least it’s interesting to me), I got complete control on Virgina buttonweed in the area.

What rate did you apply the Celsius?

Small area? Rip out and resod.

Well, too dilute to touch the dove weed apparently. 0.3-0.4 oz per 4 gallons mixed rate. I also see from my label that I mixed sulfentrazone at a rate lower than ready-to-use spray bottles. Wonder if these chems don’t do well in a tank mix.

Celsius didn’t kill your Bermuda. There’s something else going on. Pics would help.

Man, I hear ya. I thought the same thing. Where I have the worst die off is exactly where I sprayed, though. In the foreground of the second pic, you can see a small area I did not spray at all.

That looks like armyworms damage to me.

The thought has crossed my mind, but I haven’t noticed any and I have had no issues in the other 1+ acres of turf.

Do they not mess with centipede? There were adjacent centipede patches not pictured that were 4” tall.

I don’t think so. Go buy a bottle of spectricide at Lowe’s and spray and it should start growing back in the next few days

Posted this fact sheet on armyworms in the Sod Webworms thread below. LINK. They do target Bermudagrass over the other warm season lawn grasses.

Well, maybe I’ve had my first run-in with the infamous army woim. All I needed to do to attract them was finally have some decent looking bermudagrass for the first time ever.

That’s not herbicide damage. There has been a massive army issue from Houston up to Dallas. Does you pool overflow? Is it a saltwater pool?

It does not overflow but it is saltwater. I don’t dismiss worms, but the spots hit are where I last sprayed. Coincidence or maybe it was slightly stressed from the chem.
