It is actually pretty disturbing regardless of our political views. Seems like this malware is able to be received on our phones without us clicking anything. It then allows location tracking.

Unless you've gone through some work to protect your privacy you are probably already being tracked.
The only reason we are hearing about this is because journalists have been targeted. They don't care when it is happening to you.
Here's another fresh example. Something like this comes out each week.

If big tech has this capability, imagine what governments are doing.
