Maybe the wind had a little something to do with that last night.

Nope....
It was a cross wind....so if anything, made it more difficult. This kid is pretty good from 55 yards in.

Not only did Josh kick a 57-yard field goal, but my cousin, Justin Hughes kicked a 57 yard punt. That's a Denham Springs record. He also ran for 40 yards. Les Miles spoke with him after the game about his performance. Had positive things to say.

what does Dalfrey kicking long field goals in high school have to do with him punting in a college football game?
and more than that, what does Dalfrey have to do with Josh Lewis?

I am here to tell you that Josh Lewis is the real deal. he kicked a 55 yard FG against Loranger the scrimmage before the Jamboree. In the Jamboree he kicked a 48 yard FG that cleared by almost 15 yards. he then kicked a 26 and 57 yard FG against E Ascension last Thursday night. he had 5 KO that the average distance was 68 yards( that would be the 2 yard line in College ). I am sending links below that you can go to and see some of that Video.
Les Miles has seen him kick and spoken with he and I after the first LSU kicking camp this last summer. Since then Josh has really blossomed and will play somewhere he is wanted.
The reason many kickers do well in HS and not college is because they use soft/old footballs in HS but when they get to college they have to play with a QB ball and they are usually mucher newer and stiffer. Difficult to kick these if you are used to a softer ball. Also, many HS kicker use a 2 inch tee for KO but you must use a 1 inch in college. Josh is using the newr balls now and he practices with them. He also uses a 1 inch tee and he practices from the 30 yard line. By next year I expect he will be consistently in the endzone for college. The current KO from the last game were around 3.9 hangtime. The optimum hangtime in college is the 4.0 area. very few get there. Watch the videos and you will see. he was at Northwestern today on a visist watching them play Grambling. they are very interested as are a few others thet have called his head coach and will be down to visit him this week in school.

Justin Hughes kicked a 57 yard punt. That's a Denham Springs record.

The longest FG for Denham Springs was 49 yards. I could not find any info on the longest punt in Denham Springs history.

Its all about being able to kick off the ground. Most kickers dont make the smooth transition from tee to ground. Its related to golf almost. When a kicker kicks from the tee, the objective is to hit on the up swing. When switching to the ground, you have the strike the ball on the downswing to get the height, like a chip shot in golf. So many kickers have this problem that they just cant make the "Swing" transition.
